June is the perfect time

June is the perfect time to focus on your pool cartridge filters! At the beginning of the season after opening, our filters can get quite dirty as our pools begin to turn over and clear up for the pool season ahead.  Now that your pool has been open for several weeks and your surrounding trees and landscape have sprung to life… your cartridge filter needs a well deserved deep clean!

Gib-San Pools

Cartridge filters work well capturing debris and keeping your swimming pool water clean and clear. That being said, to achieve optimal clarity they will need to be cleaned multiple times a season for best results.

Think of it this way… all the pollen, tree budding and evergreen needles have been falling into your pool this spring and your cartridge filter has been working overtime to remove this debris (not to mention body lotions/oils/dirt and hair products) to keep your pool water clean and clear.  Spring and Fall are generally the hardest working time periods on any pool filter… so what to do?

What to do?

If you are a DIY pool owner, simply follow the instructions on your manufacturer’s manual and open the filter so that you can remove the cartridges for a proper clean.  There are many YouTube videos out there to view in advance so that you know what to anticipate.  Make sure to follow all the safety precautions!

Depending on the amount of debris in your filter you may be able to get away with a quick hose down however, most likely, you will need to soak your filters in a cleaning product anywhere from several hours to overnight.

What to use?

Gib-San has our own private label Filter Cleaner that we would highly recommend!

You will need a large bucket that is larger than the cartridge itself and fill with water in combination with the Gib-San Filter Cleaner.

Please follow the label instructions for best results.  After the filters have enjoyed a good soak, remove from the bucket and give a thorough rinse off with the hose.

Make sure to get into all the pleats and remove any pesky organic debris.  Let dry in the sun and you should notice a big difference between the “before” and the “after”!  Reload the cartridges back into the pool filter and ensure you follow the manufacturer’s directions before turning the power back on.

Gib-San’s preferred pool filter of choice is our G3 System 3 Cartridge Pool Filter.  It is simply one of the best options for pool filtration in the market place today and offers minimal maintenance for the pool owner – no more backwashing every week which is the case with pool sand filters!!!
